About Homeopathy

A holistic, individualized system of healing

Understand the history, principles, and practice of homeopathy — communicated responsibly and without exaggerated claims.

History

Homeopathy was founded in the late 18th century by the German physician Dr. Samuel Hahnemann. Frustrated with the harsh medical practices of his time, he developed a gentler system based on the principle of similars — the idea that a substance causing symptoms in a healthy person could help relieve similar symptoms in the unwell.

Over two centuries, homeopathy has evolved through the work of practitioners across Europe, India, the Americas, and beyond. Today it is practiced worldwide as a complementary system of medicine, with active research, regulation and education.

Core Principles

Four ideas at the heart of homeopathy

Like Cures Like

Similia similibus curentur — substances producing symptoms in the healthy may relieve similar symptoms in the sick.

Minimum Dose

Remedies are used in the smallest dose needed to stimulate the body's healing response.

Individualization

The whole person — physical, mental and emotional — guides the choice of remedy.

Single Remedy

One carefully selected remedy at a time is preferred in classical homeopathy.
